Quadraturin is based on a short story of the same name written in 1926 by Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky. His highly imaginative and visionary writing was lost in the depths of the Soviet archives for nearly 30 years and has only recently been re-discovered and translated into English.

Quadraturin received development funding from the Finnish Film Foundation, as well as support from the AVEK (Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture) innovation fund. Initial test shooting took place in January 2011 in Helsinki and production is intended for winter 2011/12.
