3D fashion film at New York Fashion Week
‘Mourning Sun Motel’ was the name of the Spring/Summer 2013 collection of Finnish fashion label Ivana Helsinki. The collection was based on a short film shot by designer and filmmaker Paola Suhonen, who decided to screen the film in 3D before the fashion brand’s runway show at the New York Fashion Week in September 2012. ‘The Mourning Sun Motel’ tells a story about a solar eclipse during midsummer celebrations at an old motel in the Finnish countryside.
The film was originally shot in 2D on analog 16 mm film, but with 3D in mind. Stereoscape converted part of the footage into stereoscopic 3D during post production and created an anaglyph version for the screening in New York.
The show and the pre-runway screening were a huge success and left the audience wanting for more – in 3D. Several fashion publications noted the 3D film.
“Stereoscape’s 3D conversion makes the clothes and patterns of the collection come alive in a totally new way.”
