‘Räkmacka’ is an open-faced shrimp sandwich – an integral part of Swedish culture and cuisine. This national delicacy is enjoyed by all, and it is so popular that October 14th was declared a Shrimp Sandwich Day at Arlanda airport in 2009. Shrimp sandwiches are the food item sold most at Göteborg Landvetter and Stockholm Arlanda. The two airports sell a total of 7,000 shrimp sandwiches a week and over 360,000 a year.
In 2012, the shrimp sandwich was celebrated an entire week from 8 to 14 October. Stereoscape took part in the Räkmackan’s Week celebrations by supplying various holographic projection systems to Stockholm Arlanda Airport, operated by Swedavia, the Swedish airport management company.
We produced content featuring mouth-watering virtual sandwiches and designed and delivered a mixed reality installation, in which digital content was combined with a real knife, fork and plate to create an exciting experience for passers-by.. The centrepiece of the installation was a 2 m by 2 m by 2 m holographic display with an image size of 160 cm by 85 cm and a wide viewing angle.
